SkiingSkiing can be enjoyed at Font-Romeu, one of the biggest ski resorts in France, some 45 minutes away The Valley of the Tech, the southernmost valley of Roussillon - and of France - winds lonesome trails around the southern slopes of the Canigou mountain. The valley is not only know for its art, but is the prime cherry-growing region, renowned for the first cherries in the French market each year. Enjoy the cherry festival and mineral waters and spas' sulphurous waters, (good for one's rheumatism, since Roman times) and the pretty medieval villages piled on the nearby hills, with their narrow mazes of lanes. On mid-summer's eve, the feast of St John, fires light up the surrounding country side of the 12,000M Canigou which is the sacred mountain of the Catalans. Fine walking country with lots to discover. |
